Lexi is six years old. In March of 2013 she was diagnosed with ALL, a type of leukemia. Lexi was in a Lot of pain and was having trouble walking. She was also having a hard time dealing with the diagnosis and treatment. Lexi’s family found out about Kids Kicking Cancer through the social worker at the hospital. They feel lucky every day that they did! Kids Kicking Cancer has helped Lexi deal with her fear and her anger throughout the last 6 months.
What Lexi’s mom Katie loves about Kids Kicking Cancer is that it caters to the whole family- not just the child that is diagnosed with cancer. In the midst of the roller coaster of cancer treatment, Lexi’s mom is so appreciative that Lexi’s sister and brother can participate, and that we provide outings for the whole family.
The family also feels lucky to have met a network of friends that has helped them through the hard times as well. Katie said that her family receives support from other parents and kids in the program, and reassurance that their feelings are normal. Lexi has met new friends too- other kids who have also lost their hair and are going through cancer treatments.
Lexi’s mom said that they feel Kids Kicking Cancer offers them many opportunities to bring smiles to their faces!
